The supermarket Kroger, for example, has issued about 60 million loyalty cards, which provide a massive data set to understand the degree that online search and display campaigns drive retail sales. The findings suggest a lift that is five times stronger when people are exposed to search ads alone, compared with display. Search alone produces an 82% lift, compared with display at 16%, and 119% when search and display are combined. About 82% of online ad campaigns measured by comScore have generated an average lift of 22% in CPG brand sales in retail stores.
source: http://www.mediapost.com/publications/?fa=Articles.showArticle&art_aid=110891

Let's Get Green-er

I, like many, dream of the day when all of America's electricity will come from the sun, wind, water and other truly renewable sources. This article from Time, provides a good overview of recent efforts to push new technology.

I am also interested in learning more about innovative solar technologies. I assume it is an attempt to get those lost users back. I like the Mar 20 Search Engine Watch article by Michael Boland, but are we all still guessing on projections made by market analyst groups such as TKG? It appears the industry is now shooting for 2013, plus by this point search ads will greatly surpass SMS ads. Do you agree with the graph below?

I would say yes, we are still guessing. I would like to see how accurate previous projections are from 3 years ago. I would like and hope to see this growth with in the next 2 years, not 4 years out as the article suggests. The industry has been gearing up for years, the SMBs are becoming more aware, and I believe the ad marketing leaders from the search engines (Goog, Y!), and even more so from the IYPs (yellowpages.com, Idearc) that have built sales forces to personally contact the SMBs.

Learn more about Michael Kirkham at www.MichaelPKirkham.com
